Privacy policy

This policy explains what EkitiConnect collects, why, and the choices you have. We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

What we collect

  • Account details: your phone number and/or email, name, username, home town and the town you live in. If you set a password, we store only a secure hash of it.
  • What you share: listings, services, posts, comments, reviews, events, photos and messages.
  • Security data: sign-in times, IP address and browser type, used to protect your account and alert you to new devices.
  • Usage statistics: which pages are opened and when, and taps on Call and WhatsApp buttons. We don't use cookies for this and don't store your IP address: visitors who aren't signed in are counted with an anonymous code that changes every day.

Photos are re-processed when uploaded. This removes hidden location data (GPS/EXIF) so your home location isn't revealed by a picture.

How we use it

  • To run the service: show your listings, connect buyers and sellers, send you codes, reminders and notifications.
  • To keep the community safe: verify accounts, stop spam and fraud, and act on reports.
  • To improve EkitiConnect, using aggregated statistics.

We do not sell your personal data.

Who sees what

  • Your name, username, towns and public content are visible to everyone.
  • Your phone number is shown on listings and services you publish, so customers can reach you. It is never shown on your profile.
  • Messages are visible only to you and the person you're talking to. Our moderators may review a conversation if it is reported.
  • We use service providers to deliver SMS (Termii) and email, and to host the site. They process data only on our instructions.

Your rights

  • Access: ask for a copy of your data through Support.
  • Correction: edit your profile and content at any time.
  • Erasure: ask us to delete your account through Support. We permanently remove your account and content.
  • Objection and complaints: contact us. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Retention

We keep your data while your account is active. Listings expire after 30 days unless you renew them. Security logs and usage statistics are kept for up to 12 months.
